About
Lea Chen
Born in 1982 in Portland, Oregon, Lea Chen studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design before moving west. For the past decade she has worked from a converted adobe studio in Santa Fe.
Her work is held in private collections across the United States, Europe and Japan.
Artist Statement
“I am not interested in describing a place, but in the residue it leaves — the color of heat, the weight of fog. Each painting is built slowly, scraped back, and rebuilt, until what remains feels like memory.”
